Support for anyone affected by suicide — thoughts of it, worry for someone else, or grief after a loss. You can talk about it here.
If you’re in immediate danger, call 000. To talk to someone now, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or text 0477 13 11 14 — free, 24 hours a day.
Talking about suicide doesn’t make it more likely. Being unable to talk about it is what leaves people alone with it.
You can say it plainly here. Nobody will panic, and nobody will treat you as a problem to be managed.
Who this category is for
People having thoughts of suicide, whether constant or occasional, new or long-familiar. People who don’t feel actively suicidal but don’t much want to be here either. People worried about someone they love. People bereaved by suicide, which is a specific and isolating kind of grief. And people in recovery who’ve come out the other side.
What people talk about here
Thoughts that come and go, and the exhaustion of managing them. Telling someone for the first time. What actually happens when you call a crisis line, or present at an emergency department. Getting through a specific night. Supporting someone who’s told you, and the fear of saying the wrong thing. Losing someone, and the guilt and unanswerable questions that follow. And the parts of life that came back afterwards.

Posting rules for this category
These follow national safe-messaging guidelines and are strictly enforced:
- No methods or means. Not described, not named, not hinted at, not asked about — including when discussing someone who has died.
- No detail about a death by suicide, including location or circumstances.
- No plans or timeframes. If you have a plan, please call 000 or Lifeline on 13 11 14 now. A forum cannot keep you safe tonight and won’t pretend to.
- No content presenting suicide as a solution, a relief, or inevitable.
- Don’t tell anyone what they have to feel grateful for. It doesn’t land the way it’s meant to.
How to use this category
Say what’s true. “I don’t want to die, I just want this to stop” is one of the most common things written here.
If you’re supporting someone: asking directly whether they’re thinking about suicide does not plant the idea. It’s usually a relief to be asked.
If you’re bereaved: you’re welcome here and you won’t be asked for details. There is no correct way to grieve a death like this.
Threads suggesting immediate risk may be closed and the member contacted privately with crisis resources. That isn’t punishment — it’s because a forum thread is the wrong place for someone in danger tonight.
