Staying safe when you share your story online

One of the best things about a community like this is being able to talk openly with people who get it. But because we share real, personal stuff here, it’s worth taking a moment to think about how to do that safely. A few gentle reminders:

Protect your identity. You never have to use your real name, and it’s fine to keep details vague — the town you live in, where you work, your kids’ names. You can share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with, and there’s no pressure to prove anything.

Be careful with personal contact details. It’s best to keep conversations on the platform rather than sharing your phone number, email, or social media early on. If someone you’ve just met pushes you to move to private messages or another app, that’s worth a pause.

Trust your gut. If a conversation starts to feel off — someone asking for money, being overly intense too quickly, or pressuring you in any way — you don’t owe them anything. You can step back, stop replying, or report the post to a moderator.

Remember this is peer support, not professional advice. We’re here to share experience and listen, which is powerful — but we’re not doctors, lawyers, or counsellors. If something’s urgent or serious, please reach out to a qualified professional or a crisis line as well.

You’re among people who understand. Take your time, share at your own pace, and look after yourself. :blue_heart:
