Assisted Dying - Yes or no

Sorry if this is the wrong category. But I am curious to hear what are everyone’s thoughts on assisted dying? Should it be allowed and supported by the communities to allow people to leave as they choose?

There is a point in someone’s journey, where you know the outcome. And it is at that point, where you start understanding the meaning of assisted dying.

I think the conversation relates to Advanced Health Directives. My wife just had a stroke. Thankfully she’ll be ok but it’s seen us discuss what we would do if it wasn’t. An AHD formalises what your partner or family should do in the event of a catastrophic health event. When such an event happens the sufferer may not be able to speak for themselves. By agreeing on what you want to happen you can make sure the affected person’s wishes are respected. It’s a morbid topic but my wife’s situation has reminded us that tomorrow’s not promised. She (and I) would rather embrace VAD rather than have our loved ones watch us die slowly.

I spent 18 months with my father - since he was diagnosed with lung cancer to a way he passed. That journey changed how I see VAD and I wish it becomes more accepted in communities, giving people the chance to decide how they end their journey.
